Major League Pickleball Australia Kicks Off This Weekend in Sydney
Pacific Pickleball, in partnership with Major League Pickleball, is kicking off the 2024 season with the launch of Pacific Pro Sydney at the Blacktown Tennis Centre Stanhope.
Set against the backdrop of one of Sydney's premier tennis facilities, the event promises to bring together pickleball enthusiasts, athletes, and fans for a thrilling showcase of skill, sportsmanship, and community spirit. Hosting both the new Major League Pickleball teams format and the Pacific Pickleball League tour format, the event is the first of six top tier events for the year.
As the leading professional league and the only nationally endorsed competition by the Pickleball Australia Association, MLP Australia is the home of Pickleball in the APAC region.
With 12 teams across Australia, New Zealand and Asia, over $700,000 in prize money is on the table in 2024. Home team Sydney Smash will be looking at retaining their event crown from last year having recently secured team ownership with Australian Cricketing legend Steve Smith.
“There has never been a more exciting time for Pickleball around the world,” said MLP Australia CEO Adam Thompson.
“We are seeing more participants and more demand for the sport than ever before. Our 12 teams are made up of some of the most talented players from the region and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the enthusiasm being shown by our fans.
“The competition will be fierce. With the support of our sponsors, partners, and the vibrant community in Sydney, we are confident that this event will be a resounding success. We are looking forward to showcasing the sport and the league to the rest of the world.”
The Pacific Pro Sydney kicks off with the PPL Open, Masters and Future Singles alongside round one of the MLP Australia teams competition on Friday 23 February.
