Zane Explains: Why He Touches the Fence Before Every Point

by Zane Navratil on

I have no chill. In tennis, I played points very very fast. As soon as one point ended, I would get up to the line quickly and start the next point. I'm not a patient person. However, I realized that this didn't help my game. When I play fast, I don't fully process what just happened in the last point, and I have trouble focusing on the next point.

If you ever watch me play, you'll notice that I head back to the fence and tap my paddle to the fence after every point. This is a way of slowing myself down. On the walk back to the fence, I process what just happened in the last point. Maybe the opponent hit a big forehand drive. Now I know to keep the ball out of that spot. Once I get to the fence, I stop thinking about the last point, and reset my focus to the next.

This is a very simple yet effective way to play better pickleball!
