Selkirk Speaks Out on Paddle Standards

by Jason Flamm on

Selkirk is one of the top pickleball paddle and equipment manufacturers in the world. So, when Selkirk speaks, the pickleball world listens.

Today, they decided to take to the 'gram and let everyone know they support USA Pickleball.

You can read the statement here:

What drove this?

The first part is pretty standard stuff, but what caught most of our attention was what's written on the second slide:

"In pickleball, it has become a common issue that the production models of paddles differ from those that were originally approved in testing."

This, to us, feels like a shot at JOOLA – the other top pickleball manufacturer – since this whole debacle began because USAP claimed that JOOLA sent them different paddles for testing (late in 2023) than what was eventually released in April 2024, and cited that as a reason for their Gen3 paddles becoming the first casualty of "The Great Delisting."

It’s Official: JOOLA Files Lawsuit Against USA Pickleball
In a move that was anticipated, JOOLA has filed a lawsuit against USA Pickleball over the delisting of Gen 3 paddles by the governing body.

But, is this actually a shot at the entire pickleball equipment industry? After all, Selkirk is saying that this is a common issue.

Who else has pulled the 'dink and switch'?

Perhaps this means that every recently delisted paddle has done this.

Or are they saying that USAP has turned a blind eye for too long and Selkirk is approving of this sudden change in USAP's vision?

Whatever it is, it feels like they are saying a lot in that one sentence—almost like a "You know who you are" warning to pickleball manufacturers.

While no one really asked for this statement from Selkirk, you have to appreciate any company willing to stand up for its values during a time like this.

And who doesn't like a good ol' 'shots fired' Instagram statement?
