PA Man Admits to Cutting Pickleball Nets After On-Court Injury 'Ruined' His Summer

by The Dink Media Team on

Pickleball court vandalism has taken a troubling turn in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, where a man admitted to cutting nets at two public parks after suffering a season-ending injury.

When an injury derails your summer plans, frustration can run high. But for one Monroe County resident, that frustration led to pickleball court vandalism that has now landed him in legal trouble.

According to WNEP, a 31-year-old admitted to cutting pickleball nets at two public parks after a recent injury forced him off the court.

"Pocono Township Community members informed the PTPD that the pictured male had been seen at TLC Park on multiple occasion prior to the incident," police's news release reportedly said.

He's now facing possible charges, including criminal mischief.

What Exactly Happened Here?

On a day that should have been like any other at the courts, surveillance video captured the suspect cutting the nets at both TLC Park and Mountain View Park in Monroe County.

The damage was allegedly deliberate and widespread enough to capture enough attention to lead to questioning. It probably didn't help that the suspect wasn't exactly operating in incognito mode: he was seen at multiple sites with a cast on his leg, moving around with the help of crutches.

He didn't just damage one net, either; he reportedly cut all the nets at both locations (including at least one tennis court, it seems), effectively shutting down play for the entire community until repairs can be completed.

Mad at His 'Summer Being Ruined'

Reports CBS News:

The 31-year-old man then allegedly confessed to cutting the pickleball net at TLC Park and three pickleball nets at Mountain View Park, as well as the tennis court net at Mountain View Park, due to his "summer being ruined."

When police questioned him, the man's explanation was surprisingly candid, according to multiple reports.

  • He told officers that he had recently suffered an injury while playing pickleball
  • He then blamed the sport itself, due to his "summer being ruined"
  • Rather than accept the setback and wait for recovery, he decided to take his frustration out on the courts themselves

It's a decision that now comes with some potentially serious legal consequences, as he reportedly faces criminal mischief charges in Monroe County as a result of the vandalism.
