Weather Outlook

The weather looks like it is going to cause issues Wednesday and Thursday, with skies clearing up Friday and Saturday.

Top Storylines

Megan Fudge is now the winningest APP Pro of all time and she isn't stopping in NYC

Fudge passed JW Johnson in the APP Vlasic Classic - Cincinnati for all-time medals on the APP Tour. She earned medal number 69 and number 70, winning women’s doubles and earning silver in mixed doubles. These two medals helped Fudge Johnson by two.

Fudge is the #1 seed in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles this weekend, so I would expect her to be adding to that count.

The men’s doubles and mixed doubles fields are wide open

Usual #1 seed Will Howells is not playing in this event. This leaves the men’s doubles and mixed doubles fields wide open.

We will get into each of these draws in a little more detail below, but Erik Lange, Purple Jesus, Jack Munro, and some other players have a very good shot at earning gold in NYC.

Sofia Sewing is on a tear

Sewing has now won three out of five APP Tour stops in 2025. The other two? She was runner-up and won a silver medal. Sewing has burst onto the scene in 2025, and she doesn’t seem to be stopping.

Chris Haworth is looking to break his “drought”

It is crazy to think about calling two events in a row without a gold medal a “drought”. Haworth has been that good over the last year - he was undefeated for over a year on the APP Tour. I expect Haworth to get back to his winning ways in NYC.

Let’s get into the action.

Women’s Singles

Top Seeds

  1. Yana Newell
  2. Amanda Hendry
  3. Sofia Sewing
  4. Bobbi Oshiro

Top Storylines

  • Newell is the #1 seed, but the last APP she won was in October 2024. She is a very consistent semifinalist, and is looking for her first gold in singles in 2025.
  • I already mentioned it, but #3 Sofia Sewing is going for her fourth title this year.
  • Other names outside the top 4 seeds to keep an eye on: (5) Simone Jardim, (9) Maria Klokotzky, (12) Alexa Schull, and (18) Emilia Schmidt.

Prediction: Sewing takes out Newell in the final on Saturday.

Men’s Singles

Top Seeds

  1. Chris Haworth
  2. Grayson Goldin
  3. Alex Crum
  4. Ryler DeHeart

Top Storylines

  • As mentioned, it has been three events since Haworth’s last gold medal on the APP Tour. He is a player who works hard and prides himself on excellence. Haworth will be on a war path this week.
  • The #2 seed is no slouch. Grayson Goldin proved himself in APP Cincinnati, winning the second gold in a row at that event. He has two golds on tour now, and is hunting for his third. He also recently came on the PicklePod to talk about his journey - see the link below.
  • Others outside the top four to be on the lookout for: (6) Max Manthou, (7) Ronan Camron, (11) Ammar Wazir, and (WC) Armaan Bhatia, who just won silver in Cincinnati.

Prediction: Haworth takes out his buddy, Grayson Goldin in the final.

Mixed Doubles

Top Seeds

  1. Megan Fudge/Jack Munro
  2. Bobbi Oshiro/Randy Blanco
  3. Jill Braverman/Aiden Schenk
  4. Susannah Barr/Brandon Lane

Top Storylines

  • With no Howells, this mixed draw gets a little more interesting. I think the 1 seed sails into the final - Fudge and Munro already have one gold this year and they have plenty of silvers as well.
  • #2 Blanco and Oshiro won bronze in APP Dallas last year, and definitely could make another great run in NYC.
  • Other names outside the top 4 seeds to keep an eye on: (6) Amanda Hendry/Chris Haworth, (8) Christine Maddox/Purple Jesus, and (12) Daria Walczak/Patrick Kawka. Honestly, there are at least eight teams I could see making the finals, depending on the draw they get. Mixed doubles should be one of the most interesting brackets in NYC.

Prediction: Fudge/Munro win gold over Yana Newell and Andre Mick.

Women’s Doubles

Top Seeds

  1. Megan Fudge/Jill Braverman
  2. Yana Newell/Emily Cederquist
  3. Susannah Barr/Amanda Hendry
  4. Allison Harris/Bobbi Oshiro

Top Storylines

  • Fudge and Braverman have really done well, earning multiple medals this year.
  • Newell and Cederquist are the only other team to earn gold this year, and they are both playing confidently lately.
  • Other names outside the top 4 seeds to keep an eye on: (6) Simone Jardim/Christine Maddox, (7) Arielle Butler/Camila Garcia Wright, and (8) Sofia Sewing/Shelby Bates.

Prediction: Fudge and Braverman beat Newell and Cederquist in the final.

Men’s Doubles

Top Seeds

  1. Erik Lange/Purple Jesus
  2. Jack Munro/Aiden Schenk
  3. Ryler DeHeart/Richard Livornese, Jr.
  4. Rob Nunnery/William Sobek

Top Storylines

  • Usually the #2 seed, Lange and Purple Jesus are the #1 seed, and will have a target on their backs.
  • Munro, who usually plays with Howells, has chosen Aiden Schenk as his partner. The 19-year-old won bronze in Sacramento with Clayton Powell. The #2 seed is dangerous.
  • Other names outside the top 4 seeds to keep an eye on: (5) Patrick Kawka/Kyle Koszuta and (13) Andre Mick/Robert Slutsky.

Prediction: I actually think men’s doubles has the most upsets, and Kawka/Koszuta take down Lange and Purple Jesus.
