Let’s Jog Your Memory…

Before we break down what actually went down on the court, let’s rewind to where it all started.

A while back, PPA Tour CEO Connor Pardoe publicly questioned Thomas Shields’ DUPR rating. Anna Bright chimed in with the now infamous line: "If you’re a 5.0, so is my mom."

Anna Bright Agrees to ‘Humble’ The Dink’s Thomas Shields in Singles Match After Trash Talk Escalates
“We’re doing it, I’m bored and humbling men is my favorite pastime.” – World #2 women’s pickleball player Anna Bright.

And that’s when things got real.

Thomas responded the only way a man with something to prove (and an audience to entertain) would: he challenged Anna to a singles match.

Anna accepted. Because, well, she was already going to be in Miami… and also because, as she put it: “I’m bored, and humbling men is my favorite pastime.”

(This type of viral moment could be a great contender for The 120/Life Dink Awards. Nominations are now open!)

So on December 13, at our Courted Miami event, the stage was set. The cameras were rolling. The egos were primed.

And the result? Well, that’s what we’re here to tease.

Here's What We'll Say

Game 1 was intense. Back-and-forth rallies, questionable line calls, and enough trash talk to fill a group chat. But that was just the warm-up.

After Game 1, we decided to “tighten things up” by bringing in some referees for Game 2.

These two took their job very seriously. They were hawking every ball, pacing the sidelines like it was Centre Court at Wimbledon.

At one point, they even paused play to check Anna’s paddle.

And, well… they gave it back to her. What condition it was in when they returned it? You’ll have to see that part for yourself.

Let’s just say it required power tools. And a knee.

But that’s not all. We’re talking overturned line calls, phantom foot faults, full-on rulebook debates. Anna got into it with the refs.

So… Who Won?

Nice try. We’re not saying.

All we’ll say is this: props to our fearless leader Thomas Shields. Most people wouldn’t dare step on the court with the World No. 2 in a public match, let alone record it, edit it, and promote it themselves.

But that’s what he did. And now, it’s time for the world to see what went down.

So grab some popcorn, pour a drink, and head over to our YouTube channel to watch the match in full.

While we’re giving credit where it’s due, massive thanks to Anna Bright for accepting the challenge in the first place and bringing the energy that made this match what it is.

She didn’t have to do this. But she did. And we’re all better for it.

And while you're at it, do yourself a favor and subscribe to Anna's YouTube channel. Also sign up for her newsletter. It's it’s not only packed with insight, it’s genuinely one of the most entertaining reads in pickleball.

Oh, and shoutout to Liping, the Pickle Peacock herself, who was courtside cheering Anna on. We love her.
