MLP Mid-Season Tournament Preview

by Erik Tice on

The Major League Pickleball (MLP) Mid-Season Tournament is happening this week at Belknap Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan in conjunction with the Beer City Open.

This is the only event of the 2026 MLP Season where all 20 teams are competing at the same event (with four additional teams).

This is one of the funnest stops on the pro pickleball circuit, and I am super excited to be attending in person for the first time. If you don’t know much about the Beer City Open, please take a look at my article from last year for all the details you need:

The Beer City Open - One of the Best Events in Pickleball
The 2025 Beer City Open is fully underway in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is a closer look at the history of the tournament and the unsung heroes behind one of the best run pickleball tournaments in the world.

The Mid-Season Tournament is running in conjunction with the Beer City Open for the third year in a row.

This year there are four new teams involved in the play: The Collegiate All-Stars, Team Europe, Team Australia, and Team Canada.

This is a double elimination tournament, where the best a team can finish once they lose is bronze. The top eight seeds were given a first round bye. Seeding was done in reverse regular season standings order, in terms of points per event.

There are regular season standings points on the line at the Mid-Season Tournament. The winners earn 10 points, second place earns six points, and the third place team earns four points.

Weather Outlook

Thursday looks like it is going to be the biggest issue during the tournament, in terms of precipitation. The mid to upper 80s alongside the humidity levels hovering around the 60% mark will make the ball play slightly slower. Hopefully there is very little to no precipitation, otherwise play will probably be moved indoors where livestreaming cameras and space for fans will be sparse.
