February 5 - Waiver Claim #1

  • Palm Beach Royals acquire recently UPA signed Sofia Sewing
  • Sewing will cost the Royals $80,000 to roster in 2026, 2027, and up to 2028, if they choose to keep her for all three years

Analysis: Sewing is the first player picked up by the Palm Beach Royals, which is an expansion franchise headed into the 2026 season. There are quite a few ways the Royals can pick up players prior to the 2026 draft, and this is one of them. For a thorough breakdown of all of their rules, check out my article:

Sewing is the top female player not on a roster and this was a no brainer for the Royals. I have projected her as being a top 10 talent in singles and top 20 in doubles right now. For a team just entering the league, this is a great pickup and I am sure we are going to see more moves soon for the Royals.

February 1 - Trade #4

  • Atlanta Bouncers receive Kaitlyn Christian
  • Texas Ranchers receive Victoria DiMuzio and cash

New Rosters:

  • Atlanta Bouncers: Jaume Martinez Vich, Jay Devilliers, Vivienne David, Kaitlyn Christian, Todd Fought, and Rachel Rettger
  • Texas Ranchers: Christian Alshon, Eric Oncins, Tina Pisnik, Victoria DiMuzio, Felicity Di Laura, and Wyatt Stone

Keeper Info:

  • Kaitlyn Christian - Keeper fee is $29,500 and she can be kept through 2026
  • Victoria DiMuzio - Keeper fee is $70,000 and she can be kept through 2027

Analysis: This is the second trade in early 2026 for Atlanta, who had to go out and make some moves after multiple players retired from the sport. KK, as Kaitlyn Christian is affectionately known, is one of the nicest players on tour, is a consummate professional, and a great teammate. The Bouncers have quickly gone from literally having one starter in Jaume Martinez Vich, to three starters in Vich, Devilliers, and KK. While I don’t think this team is a viable championship candidate, they are building a team that will definitely compete and should make the playoffs in 2026.

The Ranchers took a chance trading for KK in 2025, and the trade turned out to be a good one. I think her playing with Tina and Alshon helped highlight her abilities in doubles. This trade tells me the Ranchers are looking to upgrade their roster on the women’s side. DiMuzio was new to MLP last year, and got better as the year unfolded, but I highly doubt the Ranchers head into the 2026 season with DiMuzio as one of their starters, especially with her $70,000 keeper fee.

January 31 - Trade #3

  • Chicago Slice receive Zane Navratil
  • New Jersey 5s receive cash

New Rosters:

  • Chicago Slice: James Ignatowich, Hunter Johnson, Zane Navratil, Vivian Glozman, Callie Smith, Carlos Di Laura, Pierina Imparato
  • New Jersey 5s: Anna Leigh Waters, Will Howells, Meghan Dizon, Noe Khlif, and Mari Humberg

*Glozman and Ignatowich had their UPA contracts terminated in late 2025, so they are not really eligible to be on an MLP roster

**The 5s will have to add their third guy via trade or the draft

Keeper Info:

  • Zane Navratil - Keeper fee is $82,500 and he can be kept through 2026

Analysis: This makes a ton of sense for all three parties. For the 5s, Zane was probably going to be their drop, so they got a bit of cash for him.

For Chicago, they are getting a good player in Zane, who costs $82,500 to keep for a year. Additionally, Zane has ties to the Chicago ownership group and they are very familiar. Zane was with ProXr, and now Paddletek, with their merger. Thirty-5 Capital is the owner of both Paddletek and the Chicago Slice.

For Zane, he gets to go to a team he knows well, and presumably he starts again, which he said was his goal when the 5s traded for Noe Khlif and Zane was benched.

January 31 - Trade #2

  • Atlanta Bouncers receive Jay Devilliers
  • Miami Pickleball Club receive Eric Roddy and cash

New Rosters:

  • Atlanta Bouncers: Jaume Martinez Vich, Jay Devilliers, Vivienne David, Victoria DiMuzio, Todd Fought, and Rachel Rettger
  • Miami Pickleball Club: Eric Roddy, Tammy Emmrich, Yuta Funemizu, Mya Bui, Juan Benitez, and Tatiana Ruhl

*Both Vivienne David and Todd Fought have retired from pro pickleball, so they are not really eligible to be on an MLP roster

Keeper Info:

  • Jay Devilliers - Keeper fee is $30,000 and he can be kept through 2026
  • Eric Roddy - Keeper fee is $9,000 and he can be kept through 2026

Analysis: Jay’s keeper price is $30,000 and Miami looks to be in a major rebuilding year after making a slew of trades at the end of 2025 for added cash. This makes sense as a salary dump for Miami, who now only has a combined keeper price of $54,500. I am sure they will drop some players, but this could be a year when Miami saves some cash ahead of the 2027 draft.

For Atlanta, they just need players who don’t retire. They traded away Querrey toward the end of the 2025 season - he retired recently. Both Todd Fought and Vivienne David retired recently. Obviously Jaume is the cornerstone of this franchise, and he costs Atlanta $0 to keep through the 2026 season. Jay can play both the right and left sides, so his versatility helps Atlanta right away.

January 30 - Trade #1

  • LA Mad Drops receive Max Freeman
  • Chicago Slice receive Hunter Johnson and cash

New Rosters:

  • LA Mad Drops: Ben Johns, Catherine Parenteau, Jade Kawamoto, Max Freeman, Mehvish Safdar, and Wes Burrows
  • Chicago Slice: James Ignatowich, Hunter Johnson, Vivian Glozman, Callie Smith, Carlos Di Laura, Pierina Imparato

*Glozman and Ignatowich had their UPA contracts terminated in late 2025, so they are not really eligible to be on an MLP roster

Keeper Info:

  • Max Freeman - Keeper fee is $80,000 and he can be kept through 2027
  • Hunter Johnson - Keeper fee is $10,000 and he can kept through 2026

Analysis: There was always only going to be a handful of guys that Ben would be willing to play with, and apparently Max is one of them. Ben is known to love the right/lefty combo, and had a ton of success with it on the 2023 Seattle Pioneers with Tyler Loong. The only downside for the Mad Drops is it forces one of the ladies to play the left in mixed with Max. I would say this is a win for both teams - LA gets the guy Ben wants as a partner, and Chicago gets some cash for the draft, which they desperately need after the departure of Ignatowich and Glozman.
